Góis is a Portuguese village in the district of Coimbra, in the historic province of Beira Litoral, Centro region (Beiras Region) and sub-region Coimbra Region, with less than 2,000 inhabitants, and bathed by the Ceira River.

The municipality is administratively subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Arganil, to the east by Pampilhosa da Serra, to the southwest by Pedrógão Grande and Castanheira de Pera, to the west by Lousã and to the northwest by Vila Nova de Poiares.

Coimbra is a historically university city, because of the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest in Europe and the largest in Portugal, founded in 1290 as a Portuguese General Study by D. Dinis in Lisbon, which later established several facilities in both cities, definitively established in the city of Mondego in 1537.

In recent history, the University's student population played an important role by actively defending the values of freedom and democracy in the face of the Estado Novo dictatorship.
One of the oldest cities in the country, it was the capital of Portugal before Lisbon, until 1255, and it houses the first National Pantheon, the Santa Cruz Monastery.
Coimbra is crossed by the Mondego River, which originates in Serra da Estrela, running east-west.

It is considered one of the most important Portuguese cities, due to the infrastructure, organizations and companies located there, in addition to its historical importance and privileged geographical position in the center of mainland Portugal, between the cities of Lisbon and Porto. In terms of services offered, it is above all in education and health-related technologies that the city achieves greatest notoriety.

The city's student population is around 37 thousand enrolled, partly in public non-polytechnic higher education, partly in public polytechnic higher education and partly in private higher education.
